Product Details

EL6920 - A very good 1796 light cavalry sabre, by Thomas Craven (1798-1803) with scabbard. The blade, which has been extensively and well service sharpened in period, is bright and clean. Absolutely solid in the hilt, with no movement. The hilt and scabbard with patina, which could certainly be polished up if desired, and some light pitting. The leather remaining to most of the grip and everything is tight and secure, despite the wear of over 200 years. The spine of the blade carries Thomas Craven's stamp, there is a government approval stamp to the blade, and one langet of the hilt carries a regimental mark (probably the troop or rack number). It sheaths well and with the leather washer intact it sits very well in the scabbard. A great example of the pattern which probably saw active service during the Napoleonic Wars.
