EL6825 - An excellent Edward VII era Wilkinson Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) officer's sword, named to Dr. Augustus Scott Williams. Dr. Williams worked for St. Bartholemew's Hospital in London, and was commissioned into the RAMC as a Lieutenant in January 1906, promoted to Captain in July 1909, and served in the Great War 1914-18. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), and also the Life Saving Medal of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital Order of St John, for his work at the Prison camp in Gardelegen, Germany, during the typhus epidemic of 1915. He was a prisoner of war in the camp. The sword is Wilkinson's finest, in excellent condition. Wonderful blade with mirror polish and frost etching, with Dr. William's initials etched clearly. Much gilt remaining to the hilt, which is firm on the tang, and excellent shagreen and grip wire. With the original full dress scabbard and sword knot. Lots of research potential and a really interesting and well-documented officer, who also wrote various reports and accounts of their experiences.
