Product Details

ELC1075 - A lovely Wilkinson Highland Light Infantry (HLI) officer's sword, with initials etched on the blade, made in 1895 for D W Maxwell. According to Hart's Army List, Maxwell served in the campaign on the North West Frontier under Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98 with the 2nd Battalion Highland Light Infantry, and took part in the operations of the Malakand and Buner Field Forces, including the forcing of the Tanga Pass. He was Mentioned in Despatches and won the campaign medal with clasp. The sword features a heavily etched and detailed blade, in good condition and service sharpened, with pleasing patina which emphasizes the decoration in relief. The hilt with field service crossguard is in good condition, and the sword is complete with its correct original scabbard.
