EL6271 - A presentation sword for J. W. De Silva of the 15th Lancashire (Liverpool) Rifle Volunteers, presented in 1878 for winning the Drill Prize. The sword is made by Mole and of great quality, with lots of extra etching and added hand-engraving. The designs are special for presentation purposes, including stands of arms and flowers. J. W. De Silva appears in the army lists and Gazettes of the day, so there is plenty of extra research potential there. Curiously, for Rifle Volunteers, the blade has been service sharpened. I don't know if De Silva later saw active service in the Boer War or elsewhere, but that's another avenue for investigation. Complete with scabbard and original leather sword knot.
