EL6606 - A curious George V era (WW1?) light cavalry officer's style sword. The reason this is an enigma, is that light cavalry officers were not officially using this model of sword anymore, since the 1896 and 1912 patterns. An easy answer would be that this is a sword for an officer of the Royal Artillery or Army Service Corps, which is not impossible, but it has none of their emblems to the blade and a checkered pommel associated with cavalry swords. The infantry style scabbard might be a clue, and it is possible this was for an officer in one of the Indian or Scottish regiments that had a long standing tradition of carrying cavalry officer type swords instead of infantry models. In any case, it is an interesting sword in quite good condition. The etching is rather rubbed and there is some patina, but overall it is quite clean and bright, the hilt is firm on the tang, and the grip is good.
