EL6234 - A tidy example of the Rifle Volunteers officer's sword, probably from the 1860s or 1870s and retailed by Maxwell. The blade has unusual and attractive contrasting bright and dark etching, with good preservation of the bright mirror polish in the foible. Everything is tight and solid, there are a couple of strands missing from the grip wire, but the shagreen is good. The guard and scabbard have age patina (which could be cleaned up easily), but overall this is a nice example. Quite likely to have been made by Reeves, it has a good feel in the hand.
