ELC1081 - The sword of Colonel William Douglas Brodie Ketchen (1841-1890), of the Madras Cavalry. Ketchen was commissioned as a Cornet in 1860 and steadily rose in rank until he was the Commandant of the Nair Brigade in the 1880s. A highly sought-after Madras cavalry sword, retailed originally by Landon, Morland & Landon of London. In good condition, with a bright blade and clear etching. The blade has been well service sharpened. The scabbard has a very interesting period repair, pictured. The shagreen nearly all intact, as is the grip wire.
