Product Details

EL6445 - A Wilkinson light cavalry officer's sword (numbered 29247 for the year 1888), for a Lieutenant Cox. This was possibly Captain Harding de Fonblanque Cox, of the Middlesex Hussars Yeomanry, but more research is required. The whole scabbard and guard have been painted apparently in period in black paint, and it is possible that that this might relate to Indian yeomanry, but again more research is required. The sword itself is in good condition with a lovely blade and good grip shagreen and wire. Everything is solid. The black paint makes the scabbard and guard look rough, but they seem to be in reasonable condition under the paint, which of course could be stripped off by a future owner. A very good quality sword.
