Product Details

EL6280 - An 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword, with the officer's initials to the blade, made by WKC of Solingen (retailed in London). WHC formed in 1883 and given the 'sword scandal' that hit the newspapers about German made swords in 1886, I think it is therefore likely that this sword dates to c.1883-1888. It might therefore be possible to identify the infantry officer from the initials on the blade, though I have not tried to do so. The sword is all solid and in overall good condition. The grip is quite narrow compared to usual, which I personally prefer, the brass guard and backstrap in good shape with patina. The blade has some staining, but is basically in good bright condition, with good etching and a nicely service sharpened edge and point. The scabbard is present, if somewhat worn.
