EL6600 - Updated description with thanks to researcher James Elstob. This is believed to be the sword of Ernest Whickham Hore, of the Bengal Medical Department - an army doctor and officer. He was commissioned in 1890, and the numbers on the Pillin blade seem to correspond to that date. The initials on the blade match EWH. Also, the sword knot is gold and blue, for a medical officer. The VRI indicates that this was for a British officer serving in India, after 1876. So all the data points coincide. In 1902 Hore was listed as the Residency surgeon at Bushehr in Persia. Certainly an interesting officer. The sword is in good condition, even with the original sword knot. Some wires are a bit loose on the grip and there is a little movement in the hilt, but otherwise very good. Lots more to research on the original officer owner.
