Product Details

EL6663 - A scarce late-Georgian (or William IV) artillery gunner's sabre, by rare maker Woolley, Sargant & Fairfax (1826-1834). These were the basis for later Mountain Artillery swords, and are very similar at first sight. However, the 30 inch blades of these tend to be lighter, and of course the maker stamped on the spine gives us the much earlier date. The blades were based on the 1796 light cavalry sabre, while the cast iron grips were based on cutlasses, making them essentially weather proof. This is a great sword in the hand, similar to a 1796, but more back-weighted due to the cast iron grip. Condition is good, with some light pitting to the blade, original paint still remaining on the grip, the brass guard in good shape, and everything rock solid.
