EL6212 - A large mid-Victorian Royal Artillery officer's sword, in need of restoration. The blade of this sword is an imposingly large 35 inch example and is in good condition, being bright and with good etching. The blade is also firm in the hilt and everything is solid. But there are significant cosmetic issues which make this more of a 'project' sword - principally that the grip and scabbard have both been painted, seemingly in recent times. This could be stripped off with various products. The grip also looks like it may have been stablised with some sort of glue, but it seems solid enough. The guard and backstrap are in decent condition and everything is in good shape and tight. The blade has been service sharpened and has a couple of nicks in the edge. From the style of proof slug and general style, I am confident that this is a Solingen made example for the British market and the Royal Artillery with wing and lightning motif remain clear on the blade.
