EL6256 - A high quality late-Victorian Royal Artillery officer's sword, of imposing proportions, by Mole. Possibly for Indian or other colonial service. There are some unusual features to this sword and I presume it was a special order. The shagreen is of the sort of large-nodule ray skin usually seen on naval swords, presumably for a more secure grip, which was then stained black in accordance with RA regulation. The guard is unusually sturdy and robust. The large 35.5 inch blade is also more robust than normal and the etching is both very detailed and deep. Everything is rock solid on this sword and it is impressive in the hand. No scabbard. Good condition overall, with light, aged patina.
