EL6154 - An Italian M1833 mounted artillery sabre. Someone similar to the British 1788 pattern light cavalry sabre (and sometimes mistaken for it), this sword has quite an 18th century look, harking back to hussar sabres of Central and Eastern Europe. However these particular models were still in use with the Italian Army as late as WW1. The single ring scabbard with this example suggests that it was still in service after 1890 and it has been repeatedly service sharpened. Everything is solid in the hilt (there is a large nut at the pommel which can be tightened, or indeed unscrewed to allow maintenance to the hilt or blade). A good example of the type and a robust chopper in the hand.
