EL6809 - An interesting sword utilising an Indian or Afghan blade, as found typically on a tulwar/pulwar, mounted with a European style sabre hilt, with 1796 light cavalry sabre influence. It is difficult to say who purchased this sword or when, but I presume it must be within the British Empire, for either a British or Indian/Pathan officer, perhaps on the North-West Frontier. Or it could perhaps be for an Afghan officer, it is really difficult to say in this case. The 29 inch broad curved blade is clearly traditionally forged and has a come of forging flaws which are visible due to age and patina. There is a bit of a twist in the blade near the tip. The hilt is firm on the tang and the grip is made of a dark hardwood. The tang is secured at the end with a sort of recessed nut, which makes me think this must be late-19th century.
