EL6117 - An Indian tulwar of the 19th century. This example is housed in a scabbard which implies late-19th or even early 20th century military use, but by that date Indian cavalry were generally issued British-made cavalry sabres (since the India Arms Act of 1878 had made it illegal for most Indian makers to keep making weapons). I suspect therefore that this is a mid-19th century tulwar that remained in use for a couple of generations. The bright fullered blade is sharp and in good condition, with some engraved writing on the spine. There is a little bit of movement between blade and hilt. The hilt is of simple common quality, but in good clean condition with minimal pitting. This is a nice basic quality fighting tulwar and it would warrant a little cleaning up and fixing the movement in the hilt with some new/renewed adhesive.
