EL6769 - An excellent Victorian light cavalry officer's sword retailed by Hamburger, probably made by Reeves, with the officer's initials and crest etched on the 34.5 inch blade. I have not researched this sword, but with the initials, crest, and likely date range, there is a good chance of matching it to the right person. I estimate this sword dates to around 1850-1865. The initials on the blade appear to be HWB, and the crest appears to be a muzzled bear. Additionally and unusually, the initials EB are engraved in gothic script on the backpiece, so it is likely that this sword was passed from father to son. Everything is tight, and the blade is clean and bright. A good sword with lots of research to reveal.
