A fine quality and good condition early to mid-17th century Continental European colichemarde smallsword. With a classic and beautifully proportioned 30 inch colichemarde blade, firm in the hilt. The blade bright and clean, with a little light pitting here and there, it has delicate engraved decoration and enigmatic motifs, including a sword-wielding exotic figure. The iron hilt is profusely embossed with Baroque decoration, which covers both inside and front of the double-shell guard, as well as the knucklebow and pommel. The hilt is all solid and without movement. The original grip shows fantastic preservation, with tight copper twist wire wrap and Turk's heads. A lovely rapier than handles fantastically and has featured in many videos on the Schola Gladiatoria YouTube channel over many years and comes from my own collection.
