EL6793 - A good 1796 pattern light cavalry officer's sabre and scabbard, by Woolley & Deakin, probably! The scabbard carried the faint engraved maker's cartouche, and this clearly says Woolley at the top, and I think what follows is "& Deakin" - this would date the sword to c.1800-1803. The bright blade carries various patriotic motifs, including Britannia and the George III cypher. The hilt firm on the tang, with the leather washer still intact. The grip with very nice leather covering still 95% complete, and thick silver wire wrap. The scabbard matching the sword, and despite no maker's name on the blade itself, I feel confident that this sword and scabbard have always been together as they fit so perfectly. A lovely mid-Napoleonic era British cavalry officer's sword, with evidence of repeated sharpening, it must have had a very interesting service life.
