EL6834 - An unusual Georgian hanger or sabre (or cuttoe), probably dating to around 1760-1780, featuring a curved 29.5 inch blade. No maker's markings that I can see. The grip is reeded wood, ebonised, and the guard and pommel are dark copper alloy. There is a tiny bit of movement in the hilt on the tang and the curled side bar is no longer solidly brazed to the side D-ring (though it is stable). A very attractive and practical sword, which could have been carried by an infantry or artillery officer, or indeed a naval officer, around the time of the American War of Independence.
