French Heavy Cavalry Pallasch M1854 Hilt on 1810 Dated Blade
EL6937 - A French Heavy Cavalry/Cuirassier's pallasch, featuring an M1854 hilt on an older blade dated to 1810. In the French military it was quite normal in cavalry regiments to re-use older blades, so that we often find the newer model of hilt on an older blade (and occasionally the other way around). Here we have a Crimean War era hilt on a Napoleonic blade which would have been in service between 1810 and 1815, and could have seen action in any of the great battles of that era. The hilt and blade are absolutely solid with no movement, there are arsenal markings visible on both. The obvious flaw to this sword is that the cord and leather is completely missing from the grip, but the wooden grip is solid and feels good to hold. No scabbard. Priced accordingly.
