EL6214 - An excellent Royal Navy officer's sword (modern regulation and almost parade condition) by Gaunt (having taken over Edward Thurkle's sword making business in 1897). This sword dates to around 1897-1918. The blade is in high polish, with very detailed frost etching that the officer probably paid extra for, with some very minor staining in the recesses. The blade is firm in the hilt. The hilt is in practically perfect condition for the age, with pristine white shagreen and all the gilt grip wire in place. The guard folding drop engages with the peg on the scabbard throat and the scabbard is in good condition. The original sword knot is still in place, though understandably that is rather worn. A great RN officer's sword, way better quality than the ones being made now.
