EL6508 - An excellent George IV (or maybe William IV) HEIC (Honourable East India Company) infantry officer's sword, by top makers of the time Prosser. The inscription reads 'Makers to the King', so it could be either George IV or William IV. There is no royal cypher to tell, because the HEIC were a separate entity to the government pre-Mutiny, but my money would be on this being a very early 1822 pattern from George IV's reign, given the overall form. The condition is excellent overall, with a bright blade, clear etching, the brass hilt in good shape, with untouched patina. The grip shagreen and wire is in excellent condition, and there is even the remains of the original sword knot still in place. Everything is solid and the folding drop section works perfectly. The matching scabbard is heavy brass, with untouched patina, and it fits the blade like a glove. Prosser were the most illustrious makers of this period, before Wilkinson. A superb example of a difficult sword to find now - especially in this condition.
