Product Details

EL6783 - A superb, restored to parade condition, Edwardian infantry officer's sword, 1897 pattern, by Wilkinson, with officer's initials (unresearched). Numbered 39753 for 1903, this sword's original owner had his initials etched on the blade by Wilkinson, so there is plenty of potential for research. At some later date in the sword's history, I guess within the last 40 years, the sword has been professionally restored to parade condition, probably for a then-serving officer (not known to me). The restoration has been well done, and the sword is now in a wonderful condition, as it would have originally appeared in 1903, save for a little bit of wear to the original blade etching before the restoration. Bright blade with crisp etching of Wilkinson's usual top standard (some wear to parts of the etching before the re-polish), firm in the hilt, the grip perfect with silver grip wire, the guard mirror finished and plated. The field service scabbard is a modern replacement, presumably provided at the same time as the refurbishment. This sword could equip a modern service British Army Infantry officer, and would far exceed the standard of the modern-made officers' swords, or it would be a beautiful piece for a collector or decorator. Unlike the modern made military swords, this will also increase in value.
