ELC1031 - A scarce officer's sword for the 1st Roxburgh & Selkirk (The Border) Rifle Volunteers, dating to the reign of Edward VII. From 1888, the regiment was part of the South of Scotland/Scottish Border Brigade, which saw service in WW1. The blade, made by Pillin and retailed by Hobson, is in very good condition, clean and bright, with only a few minor blemishes - the officer's initials are etched on the blade and the officer should be possible to identify with a bit of research. The hilt, firm on the tang, is in equally good condition, with bright plated guard and backstrap, good shagreen and grip wire. The original field service scabbard is complete, with a little damage and the leather rather dry. An unusual and good quality sword, with research potential.
