EL6181 - Edward VII period 1897 pattern infantry officer's sword, made by Gaunt/Thurkle. Carrying Thurkle's proof slug, the company was owned by Gaunt by this date. A good solid example of the pattern, though not in the best cosmetic condition - the blade etching is faint and there are some patches of staining and light pitting. The hilt is in quite good condition, firm on the tang, with a bright steel guard, 95% of the shagreen intact and all the grip wire. With its scabbard, this sword would benefit from some careful cleaning.
