Product Details

ELC1017 - An early-Victorian 1821 pattern heavy cavalry officer's sword, retailed by Folkland of 69 Jermyn St London.

Unusually short 32” blade, with the officer's initials etched in a cartouche. The attractive hilt, with its early honeysuckle pattern, has deep patina, but it is possible, because of the uniform colouring which also covers the smooth backstop and stepped pommel, that it has been chemically browned in period. There is slight movement in the hilt. The grip is in excellent condition with most of the shagreen and all the brass wiring intact. The blade is clean, but the etching is fainter after the retailers name and the initials. It has been service sharpened and has several notches towards the cutting portion (see photos). The scabbard has had its rings removed and has numerous dents meaning the sword is very firmly held in, but it still allows the sword to be fully sheathed/unsheathed.

This sword is currently un-researched, but with the initials it might be possible to trace the officer.
