EL6561 - An early 1821 pattern light cavalry officer's sword, with unusual red velvet grip (possibly Indian) and plain sharpened fighting blade (35 inches long). The grip is period and has had silver wire added - I suspect in India. The form of the guard suggests this is an early example of the pattern, probably George IV era. There is a tiny bit of movement in the guard, but otherwise everything is quite solid. With its original matching scabbard. The guard and backpiece are a rich deep blue colour, probably due to original bluing with patina added, and the blade is bright and clean. A nice handling sword which was probably carried on active service in the East.
