Product Details

EL6415 - Early to mid Victorian Highland officer's 'claymore' basket hilted broadsword, retailed by Hawkes. This lovely sword probably dates to the 1850s, and features the manufacturer's name and attribution of 'manufacturer to the Queen', but has an otherwise plain fighting blade of excellent quality. One of the most characteristic features of this fighting sword is the forwards canted grip, in line with contemporary sabres. This is a feature particularly found on Highland officers' swords around the time of the Crimean War. The sword is in good condition overall, though there is movement in the hilt, due to the loss of the leather washer and the silk pommel tassel. These gaps have had cord inserted to mitigate the movement to some extent, but a better solution should be possible.
