Product Details

EL6265 - A late-17th or early-18th century (probably c. 1690-1730) Continental (probably Dutch or German) Walloon-type cavalry pallasch, or backsword. The 33 inch blade is single-edged and in bright, clean condition. The guard is a simple form of the Walloon-type hilt, featuring grotesque mask to the single shell guard, together with side bars meeting the pear-shaped pommel, as well as a thumb-ring on the inside. There is a bit of movement/play in the guard. The grip is wire-bound, with one Turks head remaining - this wire wrap may be later in date. There is a blade maker's stamp to the ricasso, but I have not found any record of this mark.
