EL6594 - A British Raj Indian-made sabre, with regimental markings. The exact origin of this sword is as-yet unknown, but what we can say for sure is that it is Indian made, with a double-fullered blade featuring an Indian ricasso, as found on tulwars. The hilt is fundamentally inspired by the British 1796 pattern light cavalry sabre, but the checkering on the backpiece suggests that this dates to the 1840s or later. My educated guess would be around the 1850s or 60s, either side of the Indian Mutiny. It is in good overall condition, with patina. Regimental markings to the guard, hardwood grip (with a chip missing from long ago). There is a little bit of wiggle in the guard, but it is relatively firm on the tang. The blade measures 29 inches, so this could have been for an Indian infantry officer or Indian cavalry. A very light and pleasant sword in the hand.
