EL6784 - An Edwardian era British Indian Army infantry officer's sword (1897 pattern) by Wilkinson. The guard of this sword carried the ERI cypher indicating Edward VII Emperor of India, and the blade has the India Stores Depot stamp. Together with the fact that the blade is not numbered, this shows that this sword was ordered by the government for a British officer to purchase in India, or perhaps to provide to an Indian officer. It is of slightly more robust construction than typical 1897 patterns, and remains all solid and tight. The etching of the blade is a bit worn, and the decoration of the guard is also quite worn down, but otherwise it is in quite good condition. The original field service scabbard remains, and is fitted with an unusually large and substantial Sam Browne frog, of a type I don't remember seeing before. It's possible that this was a distinct pattern for a specific Indian infantry regiment. There is some age-related wear to the leather of course, and one repair to a strap.
