EL6527 - A British 1853 pattern cavalry troopers' sabre, by Kirschbaum of Solingen, with War Department approval marking. This sword is a little puzzling, as Kirschbaum merged with Weyersberg in 1883, so we would presume this sword was made before then (and I think it must have been). But it has an 1891 manufacture, or perhaps repair, date on the blade. My guess is that this sword was made before 1883 (to the 1853 pattern), but then either repaired or re-issued in 1891 (the Royal Horse Artillery still seem to have been carrying this pattern then, as well as some yeomanry probably). No scabbard, and dark patina all over, but otherwise in good condition.
