EL6106 - An 1845 pattern Royal Navy cutlass, with Birmingham proof stamp (probably manufactured by Reeves or Mole), War Department acceptance stamp and 1888 Converted stamp, with most of the original scabbard. It is relatively rare to find British cutlasses with scabbards, as most never had scabbards - they were stored in racks without scabbards. However, some were furnished with scabbards so that with a baldrick they could be worn for land-bound duties and cutting out. Many of the 1845 pattern cutlasses were converted in 1887 and 1888 to the new specifications and marked accordingly - they had the blades slightly shortened and the point made more slender.

This example is in great condition, everything is rock solid and straight. Most of the original paint remains on the hilt and the blade is bright, with clear deep stamps. The scabbard is unfortunately missing the chape, which were glued on and are therefore often lost when the glue failed and they got lost. A lovely example of the pattern.
