Product Details

EL6752 - Georgian light cavalry officer's sabre, based on the 1796 pattern (perhaps East India Company). Slightly scaled down from a regulation 1796 light cavalry sabre, this could either have been for a cavalry officer, or perhaps an infantry or artillery officer, and similar swords with bone grips like this are known to have East India Company connections. Iron stirrup hilt, of 1796 light cavalry form, with carved bone (not ivory!) grip. Bright blade, firm in the hilt, with double fullers, one broad and one narrow, somewhat similar to an Osborn & Gunby sabre, or certain contemporary French swords. Faint traces of engraved floral decoration on the blade. No scabbard.
