EL6244 - A very good late-Georgian light cavalry officer's sabre by Woolley, Sargant & Crane. The dating on this sword is quite exact, thanks to this manufacturing partnership only operating between 1818 and 1820. The quality and condition is very good, with excellent condition shagreen and silver grip wire, a nice smooth surface to all the steel and very detailed and crisp etching, enhanced by additional hand engraving. The flat/wedge blade was popular in the late-Georgian period and was an alternative to the pipe-backed blades that had become increasingly popular in the late-Napoleonic wars. The edge of the blade has been service sharpened and there are a few minor nicks. The hilt is quite firm on the hilt and this is a very nice sword in the hand, with a 34.5 inch blade. Sadly no scabbard.
