EL6741 - A good mid-18th century smallsword, with an earlier, probably late-17th century blade. The blade double-edged, just under 32 inches long, with a deep fuller, having a now-obscured maker's name engraved within (seems to include the element 'nantz' to the end). The hilt of brass/bronze, was perhaps originally gilded, but none remains, now in dark patina with highlights. The original very nice grip, of alternating copper twist-wire and iron ribbon work. The guard and pommel are firm on the tang, though there is a little bit of movement in the grip, but once held properly it feels quite solid. A good early blade with research potential.
