Product Details

EL6854 - An 1890 pattern cavalry sword, made at the Enfield Small Arms Factory, with numerous markings. The blade, hilt and scabbard all carry multiple markings and it is clear that this sword was made in 1891 and then re-issued and proved many times after that, including in 1893, 1895, 1897 and it seems even in 1909. This pattern of sword was still being carried by Yeomany Cavalry at the beginning of WW1, and it seems this sword had a long and active life, and has been service sharpened. The hilt and scabbard have been painted black, in period, which might indicate WW1 use. The blade is bright and clean, and the hilt and scabbard are in good condition it seems (though painted, as mentioned). The leather grip is in good condition, worn quite smooth from use, and everything is tight and secure. A really nice untouched example with research potential (there might be regimental designations in the markings or under the paint).
