EL6869 - An 1890 pattern cavalry trooper's sword by Wilkinson. The lack of government or regimental stamps on this might suggest that it was purchased directly by a yeomanry regiment, but the Wilkinson maker's name is clear on the base of the blade, as well as the Mole Patent mark on the throat of the scabbard. Mole and Wilkinson sometimes collaborated at this time, so it is possible that Mole were providing scabbards for Wilkinson here. There is a period solder repair to one of the scabbard rings and also a soldered brass patch on the edge of the scabbard, so this sword seems to have seen extended use and repair. The sword and scabbard otherwise in very good condition, bright and without notable patina or pitting. The sword has been service sharpened, probably repeatedly, so presumably saw campaign use. The hilt and guard are all firm, with no movement, and the leather grips are secure and in good condition on the patent tang.
