Product Details

EL6923 - An 1885 pattern cavalry sword made by WKC of Solingen in 1888, marked initially to the 5th Dragoon Guards, and then yeomanry cavalry. The sword blade, hilt and scabbard have numerous markings, and this along would be an interesting research project that could tell a real story. The sword has both Solingen and Birmingham proof marks, so it could be one of the swords that passed the tests after the famous 'sword scandal' of the 1880s. The blade is mostly bright, except for a bit of corrosion near the tip which should polish out. The hilt and scabbard with patina and a little light pitting, but overall quite good. Very good grip. Everything solid and tight - the only flaw worth noting is the scabbard throat is missing. There is one very small nick in the edge.
