A curious conversion - an 1859 pattern Royal Navy Cutlass bayonet, deliberately and extensively converted to be a normal cutlass, with the muzzle ring removed, the spring catch button removed, and a wooden butt added to the pommel, to block the bayonet lug slot at the back. It is stamped as having been originally made in July 1877 (for a Martini Henry naval rifle), the conversion presumably having taken place after the Martini-Henry was retired from Naval service.
