EL6919 - An 1857 pattern Royal Engineer's officer's sword, retailed by Hobson. The plated blade is etched to the Royal Engineers Volunteers. The brass scroll hilt with a bit of deformation on the inner side, but otherwise in very good condition. The blade has been nickel plated, though there is a bit of pitting near the tip (pictured). There is a bit of a bend to the blade, but it is not obvious. The plating has reduced the definition of the plating somewhat, and also made it difficult to photograph! The plating is in generally good condition. The grip shagreen and wire in very good condition. The grip is firm on the tang, though there is a tiny bit of movement in the guard, presumably due to shrinkage of the leather washer. Complete with brass scabbard, which might indicate a Field Rank officer of Major or higher rank. A very presentable sword, and a good example of this popular pattern.
