EL6855 - An 1853 pattern cavalry trooper's sword, with Liege proof mark, in a Royal Horse Artillery scabbard dated to 1841. Obviously this scabbard pre-dates the sword, and would originally have been for an 1821 pattern light cavalry trooper's sword, but it does seem that regiments sometimes re-used older scabbards (as replacements for damaged newer ones), so this matching is not necessary modern and I have therefore decided to keep the sword and scabbard together (as they came to me), as they may have been together since the 1850s. The sword is in good structural shape with everything tight and solid, no movement, the guard in good shape and the leather grip slabs secure on the Reeves patent tang. The sword has patina and some light pitting to all iron parts. The scabbard is bright and the sword fits this scabbard well. The scabbard carries the clear regimental designation for the RHA, and the RHA are known to have carried the 1853 pattern well into the 1880s and possibly even later (shown in photographs).
