EL6872 - A good 1853 pattern cavalry sword made by Reeves (who designed and owned the patent) of Birmingham, with a scabbard marked to Mole of Birmingham. Birmingham proof mark on the blade, so this was accepted into British Army service, but I cannot see a regiment mark, so I don't know which regiment. The blade quite bright and clean, only a couple of areas of light pitting, firm in the patent solid hilt. The guard with nice thick bars, in polished condition and some light pitting. The leather grips in quite good condition, secure on the tang, worn from use quite smooth, so presumably this sword was in regimental use for a good number of years. The scabbard fits and is the correct model, but is marked to Mole rather than Reeves, so probably got swapped around in the regimental armoury (very common occurrence). A nice honest example of the pattern, made by the company who invented this pattern.
