EL6185 - A quality 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword, with bone insert at the pommel (a feature found occasionally, which is guessed to be to prevent brass tarnish from rubbing off on the uniform). Made by William Buckmaster and etched to him on the ricasso, also having the WB proof slug. The blade of regulation length and relatively light for the type. The brass hilt with folding guard (dating the sword to 1845-1860ish), shagreen and grip wire in good condition. The blade is firm in the hilt and is mostly bright and in good polish, with deep detailed etching and a few small patches of corrosion. The scabbard missing unfortunately. A nice Crimean War era officer's sword by a good maker.
