EL6174 - A very nice 1845 pattern infantry officer's sword, made by Pillin and retailed by top outfitter Hobson & Sons, dating to 1878-1886 (from the retailer's address). The blade is bright and in original polish, with clear crisp etching. The maker's name and address, floral designs and VR cypher all prominent. The blade is firm in the hilt and everything is tight. The brass of the hilt is all in good shape and the shagreen and grip wire are very good. The officer's initials (look like GLM) are etched on the blade and given the relatively narrow dating period of the sword, it should be possible to attribute this sword to an officer with some research. A very nice example of the pattern by a top maker.
