EL6158 - This is a high quality 1831 pattern General's mameluke sabre, but with a lot of cosmetic issues that need addressing - hence the price. The blade is rather good and the localised areas of rust should be relatively simple to remove - the rest of the blade remains in high polish, with clear crisp frost etching. The ivory grips however are in bad condition, with cracks and loss as shown in the photos - they are as a result loosely attached to the tang, though all the tang rivet buttons remain (unusually for this pattern!). This could be restored with entirely new grips, or by using simulated ivory inserts. The scabbard is missing at least one screw, but appears otherwise comlete, simply requiring some rust removal and polishing. An interesting and challenging project, or perhaps useful as parts for another 1831 pattern. Priced accordingly.
**PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE IVORY GRIPS, IT IS ONLY ECONOMICALLY VIABLE TO OFFER THIS FOR SALE WITHIN THE UK**
