EL6836 - An excellent 17th century Northern European Walloon or Schwedendegen style broadsword. Featuring an iron guard and pommel, with thumb-ring, and twist-wire covered grip. Probably dating to around 1670-1700. The tapered blade is 31.5 inches long, having two hollow-ground edges and a notable midrib. The blade features Latin mottos ('SPES MIA IN DEO' - 'FIDE SED CUI VIDE' - 'VINCERE AUT MORI'). These are thought to have been made in Southern Germany in the 1630s and 1640s, and later, and exported internationally, including to England and Scandinavia. There is a little bit of movement in the hilt, patina to all parts and a dent in one of the cutting edges (pictured). Good condition for the age, and feels great in the hand.
