EL6738 - An early smallsword or transitional rapier. The rapier blade 17th century, with a smallsword hilt of late-17th or early 18th century manufacture. The blade, which is very likely a few decades older than the hilt, is 38 inches long and features a maker's name in the fuller on one side and Solingen on the other. The hilt is in need of restoration and repair, having lost most of the grip covering and one side of the guard has been squashed. The guard and pommel are finely pierced and chiseled iron, in scrolling floral patterns. Due to the guard damage there is of course some movement in the hilt on the tang, but this would be a worthy project, or left as it is, is still an early and long sword, which is pleasing in the hand and would display well.
