EL6328 - A 1796 pattern light cavalry trooper's sabre. Missing its scabbard and with some loss to the wood at the pommel end of the grip, but otherwise in good condition. The blade is clean and bright, without notable pitting, and the iron of the hilt, although with some light pitting, is also bright. The tang rivet at the pommel has obviously been tightened during its working life and this probably led to the cracking in the wooden grip, but the surface of that wood is aged and worn smooth, so presumably that occurred in period. The hilt is tight on the tang overall, but there is a little lateral movement in the guard, due probably to the leather washer contracting with age. The grip is in reasonable condition, considering the age and use, with most of the leather remaining.
